Transcribe records, find a record and 3.9 million new records
GeneaGenie
Hello
This month we're introducing two powerful new features. We've extended Search the scans so you can transcribe records directly and turn them into a GEDCOM or Excel file. We also noticed that many users were using Search the scans just to locate specific records, so we built Find a record as a completely free and handy alternative.
On top of that, we've added 3,910,874 new records across six archives in Belgium, the Netherlands, and France.

Transcribe and export records

Last month we launched Search the scans, specially designed to let you systematically browse through scans — whether you're tracking down everyone with a specific surname, or hunting for an ancestor when you don't know exactly where to start.
We have now extended this feature so you can easily keep track of the records you find. You can quickly add people from the index, and later fill in the details you find in the actual record. GeneaGenie automatically recognises when the same person appears across multiple acts and merges them together.
  • Export as GEDCOM: Ready to add to your own family tree program.
  • Export as Excel: Get a neat spreadsheet with one row per act to review all the original details side by side.

Find a record

We noticed that many users were using the full Search the scans tool just to check which registers cover a specific year. This was overkill for such a simple task. That's why we built 'Find a record' as a simple alternative. It costs no credits and creates no search.
Perfect for when you already know the exact year and place of an event. Just enter a town, select an event type (birth, marriage, or death), and enter a year. It instantly shows every parish and civil register covering that exact moment, with direct links to the scans.
  • Open it anywhere: Access the tool directly from the Tools menu in the header as a popup, or visit its dedicated page.
  • Check nearby places: The built-in map lets you easily select a neighbouring municipality.
  • Share your findings: Every result has a shareable link that you can bookmark or send to other researchers.
